Panorama House

Located in the serene region of Kerala, India, Panorama House serves as a tranquil retreat, offering a peaceful escape from the bustling city life. The house, spread across 8000 square feet, embraces its natural surroundings and is an innovative response to the local climate, which combines humid tropical conditions with a rich green landscape.

The design was inspired by the idea of a “panorama” that brings the outdoors inside. The home features a two-level layout with strategic use of openings to allow for optimal ventilation and natural light, making it energy-efficient while maintaining a comfortable living environment throughout the year. The house is designed with expansive outdoor areas, framed by lush greenery that enhances the sense of connection to nature.

On the ground floor, the design includes sunken areas to provide a better view of the surrounding landscape, effectively integrating the house with its environment. Large sliding doors open up to a garden and water features that reflect the natural beauty, creating a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces. To manage the tropical sun, the design includes canopies and shading elements that protect the interiors from excessive heat while maximizing the enjoyment of the surrounding views.

The upper floor includes large windows positioned to capture the best views of the sunrise and the cool breezes, while smaller openings are placed on the opposite side to facilitate passive cooling. The structure’s sloping ceilings promote natural ventilation, helping cool the space effectively. The clever placement of windows encourages airflow throughout the house, reducing the need for mechanical cooling systems.

Incorporating a minimalistic approach, interior walls are designed low, allowing for natural airflow and enhancing the comfort of the space. The home exemplifies an ideal balance of modern design and the traditional principles of sustainable architecture, providing a perfect retreat for its owners in the heart of Kerala.
